CCNP / BSCI:

Identify the true statement regarding the following command.

R2(config)#ip route 172.12.1.0 255.255.255.0 null0

A. Such a route is illegal.

B. Such a route can help with redistribution involving BGP.

C. Such a route must be manually configured after route summarization is configured.

D. Such a route is a backdoor method of creating OSPF adjacencies.

Answer: B. A static route to null0 can come in handy during BGP redistribution. Before a route can be redistributed into BGP, it has to exist in the IGP table. In a situation where you need a route in the BGP table that doesn't actually exist in the IGP table, you can create a route to null0 in your IGP table with the "ip route" command and then redistribute that into BGP.
