Here are the answers to the Cisco certification practice exam questions posted here on Tuesday, January 20!

CCNA And CCENT Certification:

Which of the following statements are true regarding OSPF timers on an Ethernet segment?

A. The default hello time is 10 seconds.

B. The default dead time is 40 seconds.

C. If you change the hello time, the dead time will dynamically change as well.

D. The only way to change the dead time is to change it manually with the ip ospf deadtime command.

Answer: A, B, C. Those are the correct OSPF timers and the dead time will change dynamically if you change the hello time. The OSPF dead time will default to 4x the hello time you configure.

CCNA Voice:

What protocol is responsible for assigning sequence numbers to VoIP packets?

Answer: RTP, the Real Time Protocol.

CCNP Certification / BSCI Exam:

Configuring an OSPF stub area results in the elimination of what route types?

Extra credit: What kind of route replaces those eliminated routes?

Answer: Stub areas replace any E1 and E2 routes with a single IA default route.

CCNP Certification / BCMSN Exam:

A Cisco switch port has just received a dynamic VLAN assignment. By default, what common switch port feature is enabled when this happens?

Answer: Our old friend Portfast.

CCNP Certification / ISCW Exam & CCNA Security:

Identify the two modes of TCP Intercept and the main difference between these two modes.

Answer: The modes are Intercept and Watch. In a nutshell, Intercept mode intercepts incoming TCP SYN messages and responds to them on behalf of the intended recipient. Watch mode allows those SYN messages to go through, and the router watches for incomplete three-way handshakes.

New questions posted later today, along with the next segment of my exclusive look at route redistribution for the CCNA and CCNP exams!
