CCENT And CCNA Flash Card Practice Exam:

Binary-to-Decimal Conversions

Be sure to head down to the next blog post for another new CCENT and CCNA practice exam!

This one's straight and simple -- convert the following binary strings into decimals.

One more thing - don't skip over the message between the questions and the answers.  : )

Let's jump in!

String 1:  11110000

String 2:  10101010

String 3:  11101111

String 4:  01111111

String 5:  01010101

After you check the answers, check out this limited-time deal:

See you there!

Right now, let's get to today's answers.

String 1:  11110000 has the 128, 64, 32, and 16 bits set.  Add 'em up and you have 240.

String 2:  10101010 has the 128, 32, 8, and 2 bits set.  Total is 170.

String 3:  11101111 has all bits set except the 16 bit.  Add all the others up (or subtract 16 from 255) and you have 239.

String 4:  01111111 adds up to 127.

String 5:  01010101 has the 64, 16, 4, and 1 bits set.  That adds up to 85.

CCENT And CCNA Flash Card Practice Exam:

Hexadecimal Conversions

It's nice to share, so share and Google +1 this exam! :)

Let's get the ol' Bulldog Brain clicking with this flash card practice exam -- and there's a very special, all-new announcement in bold below the questions and answers.

Be sure to read it.   Let's get started with today's practice exam!

Today's questions deal with an often-overlooked subject on the CCNA and CCENT exams.  Given the hex values below, convert them to decimal.

a2

B4

3F

1Ac

2F1

We'll go through the answers, step-by-step, right after this:

See you there!   Right now, let's get to today's answers.  A couple of hex reminders....

The letters "A" through "F" represent the decimals 10 - 15, respectively.

The case of the letters doesn't matter.  An upper case "A" and a lower case "a" both represent "10".

That said, let's work through each of these exercises:

The hex value a2 means we have 10 ("a") units of 16, and 2 units of 1.   160 + 2 = 162.

B4 gives us 11 ("b") units of 16 and 4 units of 1.   176 + 4 = 180.

3F represents 3 units of 16 and 15 units of 1.   48 + 15 = 63.

1Ac converts to 1 unit of 256, 10 units of 16, and 12 units of 1.  256 + 160 + 12 = 428.

Finally, 2F1 gives us 2 units of 256, 15 units of 16, and 1 unit of 1.  512 + 240 + 1 = 753.

That's it!  I'll see you later today with two new videos, and as always, I'll see you on YouTube and Udemy!

It's July 2, 2014, and time for a new CCNP SWITCH and TSHOOT Flash Card practice exam!

I'll add a Video Practice Exam to this post later today!

Let's get started!

1.   What specific Cisco switch feature requires the use of a "VMPS"?

2.  By default, the maximum number of secure MAC addresses allowed per port once port security has been enabled.

3.  You've configured Cisco port security to allow two secure MAC addresses per port, but you only manually configure one secure address.  Describe specifically how the other secure MAC address is determined -- or not determined.

The answers right after this quick and VERY important message!

You can now save 78% of ANY of my CCNA, CCNP, and Security courses on Udemy, just by using the coupon code BULLDOG44 when you're signing up!

There are also several free courses for you on that page, so head on over and join over 59,000 students right now!

See you there!

The answers to today's questions:

1.   A VMPS is a VLAN Membership Policy Server, and you'll need that to run dynamic VLANs on your Cisco switches.   (You don't need one for static VLANs.)

2.   By default, a Cisco switch port enabled with port security is allowed one secure MAC address.

3.    If there's a difference between a port's number of allowed secure MAC addresses and the number of manually configured addresses, the port will consider the next dynamically learned MAC addresses to be secure until the overall limit is reached.

Sounds complicated, but it's not.  Let's say you had a port configured for 3 secure MAC addresses, and you only configured one secure MAC address statically.  That port will consider the next two dynamically learned addresses on that port as secure.

Thanks for taking today's practice exam!  I'll see you on YouTube and Udemy!
